Drop Zone Safety Policy & Procedures
Updated: Sep 24
Power Link Utilities establishes a designated drop zone for work areas where materials, equipment, or other objects could present a hazard to personnel on the ground.
Every PLU work zone must have an established drop zone. The location of the drop zone is documented as part of the job briefing/JSA and visibly marked with cones.
Ground personnel are not permitted to enter the established drop zone during ascent or descent or while work is being performed aloft. The drop zone moves as the position of the equipment, personnel, and work area aloft changes.
PLU crews establish safe areas outside the drop zone for staging materials and equipment. Three-way communication is used between crew members to clearly communicate when ground personnel may STOP or GO when entering the zone.
Our crews also establish documented emergency plans as part of their safety planning.
The drop zone policy is designed to help keep PLU employees, contractors, customers, and others on or near the work site.
